I was recently given a tour of the lovely new workshop venue in Ramsgate – the ‘Makers House’ which is a beautifully restored large villa in the conservation district of the old town. It has wonderful space and light and a big garden too!

It is the brainchild of Polly Powell and she is organising workshops there throughout this year. I am teaching there the weekend of October 2-4 and we will be making two small projects over the weekend, based on the buildings of Ramsgate or a chosen one of yours.

If you would like further details or to enroll – there are limited spaces, please contact Polly at ppowell@batsfordbooks.com or see the info my workshop page.

Hope to see you there!
I recently returned from a flying visit to Stockholm. I had been there ten years ago to research ‘Textile Folk Art’ (Batsford 2018) and loved the Nordiska Museet in particular. They used to have drawers with embroidery samples inside (much like the old V&A). Currently the embroideries are scattered through the collection and are still fabulous!

I also loved visiting the charity/thrift shops last time – loads of domestic textiles and embroidered pieces. I returned to Artikel2 which used to be Emmaus and Stockholms Stadmission nearby. Some great finds and inspiring pieces for future work.

The last image is from the subway. It’s a very inspiring city and I missed Midsommer by a few days ! Happy Midsummer all…
